Cusco Peru Best Museums Tour

Museo de Arte Precolombino: This museum the arts from various tribal regions along the coast of South America carbon dated from about 1200 BC through the Inca period before Spanish rule. The entry fee is s/12.

Museo Inka: If you only have time to see one museum, and you want the historical context for what you are seeing, this one might be your best bet. It has works recovered from all over the west coast of South America for times 1200 BC to colonial art. Make sure to hire an English speaking guide to explain the historical significance as you walk this museum. The entry fee is s/10.

Museo Machupicchu Casa Concha: This museum contains the artifacts excavated at Machu Picchu. It is well worth the visit. No pictures or video are allowed inside. The entry fee is s/8.

Museo Del Monastério De Santa Catalina De Siena: This museum contains mainly paintings of a religious nature painted during the colonial era at the Cusco school of art and other religious relics from that period. There was an Inca Monastery here before the Spanish arrived. When the Spanish arrived, there were 20 Inca virgins living in the monastery. By Inca tradition, the Inca virgins were married to the Sun god for life and were to die virgins. When the Spanish arrived to steal the gold from the Cusco Sun Temple, and convert the Inca to Christianity, they raped the Inca Virgins. The entry fee is s/8.

Museo Palacio Arzobispal: This is the museum of the Archbishop of Cusco. It is also the palace of the Archbishop of Cusco. So you can see the opulence of the Archbishops’s colonial era Mansion while you enjoy some of the bets colonial-era religious art.

Cathedral de Cusco: This is one of the best collections of Spanish Colonial era art I have seen anywhere. It is a must see.

That means they just publish tours conducted by third parties. Some tours are better than others. So you need to read the reviews. Look for a tour that has at least 5 reviews that sound good, and 2 of those reviews should be within the last few months.
