In this report, we share apartments and houses for rent in Puerto Morelos Mexico.
We found our apartment on the Puerto Morelos Expat Facebook Page. We wanted to come for a month and stay at the beach in Puerto Morelos. But the beachside apartments and houses started at around $1200 USD per month when we were here. We didn’t want to pay that much per month.
A friend told us that there was another part of Puerto Morelos that had cheaper rents. It was in the little Mexican village about 2 kilometers inland from the beach.
The Village is about 14 minutes from the beach by bicycle or you can get a taxi for around 30 pesos from the taxi stand in the village for about 30 pesos ($150 USD). Some accommodations come with bicycles or you can buy a used bicycle. You will find used bicycles in town (or on Facebook Market) for about 1200 pesos ($60 USD). Just sell the bike the same way or leave it for the next tenant when you leave.
As you can imagine, not just the rents are cheaper in the local village. We easily saved another 40% eating in restaurants in the village.
Short Term Apartment Rent
We paid 12,000 pesos ($600 USD) for our apartment shown in the above video for one month including utilities, internet, gas, and electricity (airconditioning). It included all of the amenities shown in the above video.
Long Term Apartment Rent
Ana, the landlord, said she would let us rent the apartment for 7000 pesos ($350 USD) per month if we stayed for 6 months or more. But we would have to pay our own utilities and a 7000 peso deposit. The monthly utilities would be wifi 500 pesos ($25 USD), gas 200 pesos ($10 USD), water 200 pesos ($10 USD), and however much electricity we use. During the summer months, the electricity could run 3000, 4000 pesos per month ($150 USD, $200 USD). If you run AC 24-7 it could even be more depending on how hot it is outside and whether or not you close the windows. These were the terms offered at the time we were here.

Thanks for sharing Kate. It helps make it real for other people. Yes, it is fun just seeing another part of the world live their daily lives in the non-tourist zones. Average human speed is about 4 miles per hour walking and 12 miles per hour biking. So your bicycle speed to the beach would have been about 14 minutes. 🙂 Dan
We stayed there too and walked to the beach. It took about 40 minutes, but we love to stay in shape. Plus, we got to wander into cute shops along the way and see cute homes. It was a lovely stay.
