Best Retire Cheap in Paradise Locations in the World
This Panglao Island Cost of living information is intended to give you an idea of what daily life would cost you for eating in local restaurants, staying in temporary accommodations, or paying for various entertainment around Panglao Island.
However, if you retired or lived here long term, you would likely be able to save even more money by cooking at home and renting an apartment long term instead of paying short term rates.
You can see where we stayed for $19/night at the link below or watch in the above video. That price includes utilities and WIFI router. .
You could easily save 40% on that accommodation rate by leasing month to month instead of daily. In fact, a 3 bedroom house on the same property was renting for $400 per month which is much cheaper than we paid for a temporary studio apartment.
Bohol Island Best Cheap Food and Life
We only list restaurants here if we loved them.
Shaka Vegan Restaurant (Best Vegan in Panglao): Expensive but really amazing food.
Giuseppe Pizzeria: $8 Pizza. Not my favorite crust but it was very good pizza.
McDonald’s: We had cheesy egg sandwiches with hashbrowns and coffee for $2 USD each, Ham is 50 cents more.
Food Cart 1 (across the side-street from this resort): Qiang Hui had deep-fried chicken here several times. It was 10 Pesos ($0.20 USD) for 3 small pieces.
BBQ Local Food: This was across the street from Giuseppe’s Pizza a little closer to the beach. This is where Qiang Hui had 3 selections and a beer for $2.60 USD.
Breakfast: The rest of the time, I was having protein shakes in the morning and Qiang was having Oatmeal in our room.
Groceries: This was a tourist area so we ate at home often to save money and eat more healthy foods cooked meal per day while here. Here are the two grocery stores where we shopped:

Cheapest Flights to Bohol Island
We almost always get our cheapest flights on Skyscanner. They have a web crawler that is constantly looking for the cheapest prices all over the world. We found our flights from Penang to the Philippines for $200 USD per person. The Philippines requires you to have an exit flight when you land. We booked on onwardticket.com flight for $12 per person. They confirm long enough for you to gain entry into the country.
Once we were in the Philippines, we traveled from island to island on ferries. In Camiguin Island, you catch the ferry here and it takes you to this port on Bohol Island (425 Pesos). You then grab an air-conditioned minivan in at this spot in front of Jagna Public Market. The minivan will take you to Island City Mall in Tagbilaran, Bohol Island. There will be (multiple) motorized tricycles waiting when you exit the minivan at Island City Mall. They will offer to take you to Panglao Island for 400 Pesos (2 people), but they will take 300 Pesos if you bargain. We like bargaining and then we tipped him 100 Pesos upon arrival. Watch the above video to see us doing this.

You are welcome. I don’t think we will fly anywhere without an onward ticket for the next few years. Immigration around the world has become unpredictable because of CV19 so we cross every T and dot every I now. I am not familiar with that onward ticket provider so let us know how it goes once you clear customs. 🙂
