This Surgical nurse leaves USA for better healthcare. She is a veteran nurse with 26 years of surgical and recovery experience. She left the United States and had a total of 4 surgeries performed outside the USA. In this interview, she reports that the care was both better and 40 to 60% cheaper outside the USA.
After being impressed by both the costs and quality of care and professionalism she received, the company asked her if she would like to help others find doctors overseas in what is now commonly referred to as medical tourism.
In the above video, Joan Denny answers the following questions in a zoom interview. After watching the video interview, submit your information here, if you would like to find out more information.
Medical Tourism in Mexico
We are not associated with this company nor will we receive any commission if you decide to use their services. Make sure to do your own due diligence because we have not independently done any due diligence. We just like Joan Denny and wanted to share her personal story with you.
Here are the questions Dan asked Joan Denny in the above video. We are just paraphrasing her answers below. You can hear her exact words in her own voice in the above video.
Where are you from Joan Denny and what kind of work were you doing before you left your home country?
Joan was born in Indianapolis but lived mostly in Arizona. Joan has 3 college degrees including 2 master’s degrees in nursing, and 26 years of experience in healthcare, 20 of those years in surgery and recovery.
How long have you been living outside the USA and where are you living now?
14 months outside the USA. Croatia, Portugal, and then 10 months in Mexico and Panama. Now living in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Have you had any medical or dental done outside the USA?
Since in Mexico, Joan has had a total of 4 medical procedures done. She was so happy with the price and service from the first few procedures, she had a few more surgeries done.
Her desire was to just get “as good a care” as she would have gotten in the USA at a saving. But she was surprised to get better medical care in Mexico with a 40 to 60% savings.
She also had some dental work done at a 40 to 50% savings.
How would you rate the experience overall along with the price and quality of the medical services you received?
She was impressed with the quality and the price. It was better quality and much better care. Private room in a private hospital. State of the art equipment, and English-speaking doctors. It was 50 to 60% cheaper.
In the USA it would have cost $20k (dollars), but in Mexico, it was $10k USA total.
As a medical professional, how do you think the services compared to what you would have received in your home country in terms of professionalism and standards of practice?
Amazing care and professionalism, the equipment was state of the art. It was all very impressive. Very surprising that it was that good.
Doctors take their time, excellent bedside manner, you don’t feel rushed, you feel well cared for, well looked after. It is very refreshing.
As a medical professional, I understand the other side of it. You are busy, you have a schedule. Unfortunately in the USA, you are usually over-scheduled. They double book you, so you are just really tight on time.
You just don’t have that rushed feeling as a patient there. There is plenty of time to talk and get your questions answered. There is just a level of security and trust there.
Do I understand correctly that you have begun to help people find doctors and dentists in Latin America qualified to perform various medical and dental services in Latin America?
Yes. I went into it kind of by accident. I just had a really good experience and one of the owners approached me and asked me. With your background and experience would you be interested in doing this kind of work?
I said tes. So long as I can do this online because we want to continue to travel.
They were extremely receptive to my working online because of my background and experience. So I started working with them.
It is called Pulse Protocol. They are a medical tourism company. They are out of Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California.
There are 130 doctors that have provided about 10,000 medical tourism procedures. Because of my experience, I can walk them through the process and get them a good price.
They are mainly in Latin America but are expanding into SE Asia and Europe.
What types of medical and dental services are you able to find for people in Latin America, and how do the prices compare to the USA?
The platform has all kinds of doctors and dentists so we do all kinds of procedures. But they add new ones all the time. So contact Joan to see if what you need is available. And the savings, in general, is about 40 to 60%.
Are the buyers of these services usually able to get reimbursed from their USA insurance companies or are these more for uninsured people that just want to pay for services themselves and save money by opting for medical tourism?
Mostly it is out-of-pocket medical tourism. Some dental and some patients that work for large corporations are able to get reimbursed. But in general, it is out of pocket.
It is not just Americans saving money but also Canadians who don’t want to be on a waiting list for 2 years.
What are some examples of medical tourism services people have been able to locate through you and how did the prices compare to what they would have paid had they had the work done in the USA?
We do everything, but recently we have been promoting mommy makeover procedures. These include tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and liposuction, and it is about $8500. Which is about a 50% savings over the USA.
We are working with a weight loss doctor, that she is excited about.
Also, a stem cell clinic that helps with degenerative disorders like autism, dementia, and other stem cell treatments.
They helped a child from a wealthy family with autism and got such good results, that the family set up an endowment for the clinic that helps pay for the costs for other children to get that treatment.
Then even after helping another child with the family endowment, the clinic has another rule they follow. Anytime someone gets the procedure, they treat a Mexican child for free.
The endowment ends in December 2022. So come quickly. It is an excellent organization.
Where would someone contact you if they needed help finding medical and dental professionals in Latin America?
