This Cost of Living Camiguin Island Philippines information is intended to give you an idea of what daily life would cost you for eating in local restaurants, staying in temporary accommodations, or paying for various entertainment around Camiguin Island.

However, if you retired or lived here long term, you would likely be able to save even more money by cooking at home and renting an apartment long term instead of paying short term rates. In fact, the above video shows you an example of an apartment that rents for $180 per month.

Thus, you could easily save more than 50% by leasing month-to-month instead of daily. But before you pick your perfect retire cheap in paradise location, you should know the top mistakes made by others that retire internationally. This video explains.

Camiguin Island Best Cheap Food and Life

We only list restaurants here if we loved them.

BeeHive Driftwood Cafe (Asparagus Soup): $7 USD. Expensive lovely seaside setting.

KURMA (Coconut Vegan Burger): $7 USD Expensive but very delicious vegan and meat options.

Chill’s Music Lounge (Not on Google, but next door to July’s Heaven): $5 USD. Great music and beachside atmosphere.

Northern Lights Restaurant (Fish was Okay): $ 4 USD grilled fish, $2 extra-large beer with frozen mugs.

Old Hall: Also not on Google but somewhere near here. A very special bar in Camiguin owned by Nick and Stephanie from California!

The restaurants on this island were expensive. Qiang Hui was boiling eggs and eating egg whites when we toured the island to avoid the expensive restaurants. I was having protein shakes in the morning and Qiang was having Oatmeal in our room. Normally, Qiang Hui tries to find cheap local restaurants but she just wasn’t feeling like it in Camiguin.

Groceries: If you retired here on a tight budget you would need to cook many of your own meals.

There are small local markets you will see in most neighborhoods around the island that sell fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and meats. Plus, we shopped at this large local market and the grocery store on this bottom floor of this large mall, both in Mambajao.

If you buy anything using our links such as flights, tours, or accommodations, you will pay nothing extra, but we will earn a small commission. Your kindness will encourage us to keep making these travel guides and videos.

Camiguin Island Best Cheap Accommodations

Here are a few suggestions:

Hostel: Cheapest place on the island when we searched.

Mid-Range: The price and location is amazing.

Step Above: Very nice place.

Airbnb: This house is the first place we stayed on Camiguin Island. The above video films the inside of the first and second places we stayed. If you are new to Airbnb use this code http://www.airbnb.com/c/dbell50 at checkout to get a big discount. Here is the second place we stayed for the final two days in Camiguin. Stay in an Airbnb to verify whether or not your Camiguin Island Cost of Living was on target for your budget.

Cheapest Flights to Camiguin Island

We almost always get our cheapest flights on this Skyscanner. They have a web crawler that is constantly looking for the cheapest prices all over the world. We found our flights from Penang to the Philippines for $200 USD per person. The Philippines requires you to have an exit flight when you land. We rented proof of an “On-onward Flight” for 24 hours before boarding our flight for $12 per person. The flight is valid long enough for you to gain entry into the country.

Ferry to Camiguin Island

Camiguin Island was our 3rd city in the Philippines. So we took a minivan from CDO to Camiguin Island for 600 Pesos per person. The Van travels with you on the ferry and then drives you all the way to the city of Mambajao on Camiguin Island. In fact, we told the Van driver the name of our Airbnb accommodations and he dropped us at the front door for no extra charge. See Airbnb accommodations above. You catch the Van in CDO in the parking lot behind Gaisano Mall as shown on the below Google Map (Just look for signs that say “Camiguin” when you get to the parking lot.)
