Cost of Living in Paracas, Peru

[kkstarratings]  This is Dan from Vagabond Buddha. Unless you are moving to Paracas to work in tourism, you probably won’t actually live in Paracas. There are people living in Paracas but it is more of a tourist spot and the bulk of the people serving the tourist industry live in few kilometers north in either nearby San Andreas or Pisco. There are collectivos (shared taxis) running up and down the coast constantly from Paracas to Pisco, for s/1.50 (0.5 USD). So it is cheap and fast to get back and forth to Paracas.

Mostly foreigners come to Paracas while touring around Peru to see the birds, sea lions, and the Candelabra geoglyph. My above “Things to Do in Paracas” link will tell you about that.

Here are my estimated costs of living one month in the Paracas area of Peru as a temporary visitor. For all of the transportation modes listed, other than taxi, I have listed the collectivo price.

Some of the estimates could be reduced. For example, you can find furnished unfurnished apartments in Pisco or San Andreas for as little as s/330 (100 USD) per month, for a local-style apartment and double or triple that for a nice place in Paracas. So, the prices I am quoting below are higher, and about what a temporary visitor will pay if they stay for a month or two.

The medium costs are higher because the hotel costs more than the Airbnb room. When we stayed in this house we had the whole place to ourselves. The owner lives in back in a studio when guests are in the house.

The above costs do not include alcohol, excursions, or extras, and it is for one person. These are based upon eating outside your accommodations twice a day. If you stay in the Airbnb apartment, you might be able to save money cooking more meals at home. But that depends on what you cook and whether you would otherwise eat in Food Carts, Neighborhood Restaurants, or High-end restaurants. Some of the expenses remain unchanged when you add another person. I am not guaranteeing anything. These are just my notes from my personal travel.

I am not offering you these prices.  These are just my notes and estimates from the time of my visit and this post.  Your costs will likely be drastically different if significant inflation or deflation occurs or the market changes after this post.  I will not update these numbers until I am on the ground again here, if ever.
