Cusco Peru Best Places to Stay

[kkstarratings] This is Dan from Vagabond Buddha. I just completed a two-week stay in Cusco, Peru. I hadn’t been to Cusco since 2009 and I was amazed at how different it was. Better food, better accommodations, better (and more) tours, and better nightlife.

Since I had been to Cusco before I knew I wanted to be within 5 to 10 blocks of Plaza de Armas. You see, I like to be able to walk out my front door and be somewhere interesting. I don’t want to have to take a taxi to enjoy my immediate surroundings.

Here are my suggestions of where to stay in Cusco. I will start with cheap recommendations and get more expensive so everyone finds what they need. If you book any of my recommendations, you will pay nothing extra, but they will pay me a small commission. This will help me to keep traveling and keep sharing what I learn. Thank you in advance.

Backpacker Recommendation (Kokopelli Hostel): This hostel is well reviewed and is in a great location. At Hostel Kokopelli Cusco guests will find a 24-hour front desk, a garden, and a bar. A shared lounge, a games room, and a tour desk are also available.

Moderate Hotel (La Casona de Rimacpampa): On the day I was searching for cheap hotels, this one was crazy cheap ($225 for 7 Days) for such a great location. Rooms are decorated with wooden furniture and wooden floors giving a cozy atmosphere. They are all fitted with a heating system, and private bathrooms have hot showers.

Boutique Hotel: (Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel) If you are fat on cash and want only the best, this place is for you. Aranwa offers 5-star luxury set in a refurbished sixteenth-century mansion in downtown Cuzco. Its regal interiors are decorated with stylish antiques and crystal chandeliers.

Here is where we stayed (Airbnb): This is a private room with its own bathroom. Plus it shares a kitchen with about four other private rooms on the same floor. It has amazing water pressure, really hot showers, and the Internet worked fine. That is about all we need to be happy. Plus, when we stayed there, it was really cheap ($14 USD night). There is laundry service on the corner for s/3 per kg. San Blas area is about 5 blocks and Plaza de Armas is about 12 blocks. We usually walked, but an Uber ride to Plaza de Armas was about s/6 (2.5 USD). (If you are new to Airbnb, use this code www.airbnb.com/c/dbell50 for a big discount).

Here are the tours available in Cusco. I recommend using either Viator Cusco Tours or Get Your Guide Cusco Tours. These are tour aggregators. That means they just publish tours conducted by third parties. Some tours are better than others. So you need to read the reviews. Look for a tour that has at least 5 reviews that sound good, and 2 of those reviews should be within the last few months.
