In this report, our new friend Bobbie gives us his 400 USD Apartment Tour in Playa Del Carmen Mexico.

I will talk about Bobbie’s apartment deal first and then about our videos on Oaxaca as promised in the above video.

Facts About The $400 USD Apartment

You are highly unlikely to get an apartment like this for $400 USD per month booking over the Internet especially in high season when this video and post was made.

But here is what helped Bobbie get this deal. First, he found the apartment in August of 2020 which is low season in Playa Del Carmen–the beginning of Hurricane Season. Second, it was during the Coronavirus pandemic when many landlords were offering reduced rents to reduce vacancies. Third, since the Coronavirus, many landlords have favored taking long term tenants with 6-month minimums so their buildings create at least some income during the economic downturn. Fourth, Bobbie booked another apartment in the same building for a week and then asked the front desk if there were any cheaper apartments available in the building for long term. That is how he got the great deal.

Tip 1: If you are trying to live cheap in Playa Del Carmen long term, you need to arrive in low season!

Tip 2: Book something online for the first few days (or week), and then walk the neighborhoods looking for rent signs and walk into buildings and speak to the managers.

Tip 3: Be willing to commit to longer terms to get the prices lower.

Tip 4: Be willing to negotiate face-to-face. Don’t try to walk away and then negotiate by text or phone. Make an offer while they are showing you the available apartment. Make several offers before expecting any results.

Tip 5: Use Internet websites only to book your first few days (up to 1-week) ad make your long-term best deal with your feet on the ground.

This is the short term high season rate in the building where Bobbie is staying. They want $475 per week right now in high season. That is 4-times the price Bobbie is paying on the day we filmed this video. It is a new building so it was not even constructed the last time the Google video car drove down the street and filmed the buildings.
