This is Dan from Vagabond Buddha. When it is time to pick where to go next, I always ask the most obvious question. Why come to Lima, Peru?

I just completed a two week stay in Barranco, Peru. Barranco is a suburb of Lima.

I came to Lima because it was on the path to where I wanted to go. I was traveling south from Ecuador through Peru. Lima was on my path through Peru. This time, Lima was on my path between archaeological sites in northern Peru and Machu Picchu.

I had already been to Machu Picchu, but Qiang Hui hasn’t yet. Plus we were in nearby Ecuador, so why not stop in a nearby beautiful place.

We have been on the road for 6 months this time: England, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, and now Peru.

I was last in Peru 9 years ago. I was also in Lima the first time because it was on the way to Machu Picchu. I have been traveling the world since 2007. I have visited or lived in 64 countries so far.

I am traveling slower this time because I have more free time. I work on my computer so I can be anywhere in the world. I am in no hurry to go anywhere else right now. If you would like to learn how to get more freedom in your life, so you can slow travel around the world, subscribe to Vagabond Buddha or get a free copy of my Ebook.

Additionally, since I am in no rush, I will check out a few new places along the way. While heading from Lima to Machu Picchu, we will visit Paracas, Huacachina, Nazca (the place with figures drawn on the ground you can only see from an airplane), Arequipa (the intellectual capital of Peru), and Lake Titicaca (one of the highest lakes in the world). I will share those with you as I go. We are still debating whether or not to see Bolivia while in Peru.

But why 2 weeks in Lima? We were just in the Galapagos and a bunch of archaeological sites in northern Peru. I was so busy sight seeing as we fast traveled through those areas, I didn’t get enough work done. We both needed time to catch up on projects. So we decided to stay in Barranco, Lima Peru, for 2 weeks so I could get some work done.

While in Lima, I rented a furnished apartment for 2 weeks and worked half days on my laptop, and explored the Lima area in my free time. The internet is great in Lima and there are a bunch of things to do and see. That is why I stayed 2 weeks. I just snuck out a few hours each day and collected data, pictures and videos to show you around Lima.
